Rigorous Grade-level Instruction
Southern Avenue Charter Elementary School provides rigorous grade-level instruction for scholars in grades kindergarten – 5th grade. SACS also implements the state-mandated RTI2 program, grade level tutoring, exceptional children (SPED) inclusion services, and instruction for gifted scholars. The instructional day is packed with ELA (phonemes, phonological awareness, decoding, sight word reading, reading fluency, reading comprehension, writing, and grammar) instruction, mathematical practices ( fluency, procedural, and conceptual knowledge), science (life, physical, and environmental) and social studies (geography, civilization and government, history, and culture). Scholars are immersed in the daily ELA curriculum of CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts), math curriculum Envision 2.0 Pearson Realize, science curriculum Inspire McGraw Hill, and social studies Studies Weekly and primary resources. Scholars receive 40-minute exploratory learning daily in guidance, music, Spanish, P.E, and STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, arts, and math).
During the course of the school year: scholars will take benchmark assessments and interim assessments at least 3 times (Fall, Winter, and Spring). SACS also participates in TCAP in the Spring. Each test assesses ELA, math, and science standards.
